Its F...... Wrong That's What it Is !
Have you ever noticed that certain charities and " Good Causes " always make their way on to media sites ? I opened up one particular site this morning , and there lo and behold was an appeal to help victims of the earthquake in Nepal . The site added that it had given 2 million euro to the appeal , and asked if everyone else could just give 4 euro to the funding .
Let me say from the outset that I am all for giving to the needy and the hungry , and victims of all sorts of travesties . But what really annoys me is the fact that most organizers and executive directors of these charity appeals are paid such vast salaries , that it becomes a bit hypocritical of them asking you me and the rest of the nation to help with these appeals . You see their salaries are paid for by your contributions , its simply called administration fees and the like . Take unicef ireland for instance .
A certain Mr Peter Power happens to be executive director of the charity . It has been reported but not confirmed that he is earning between 150 thousand and 200 thousand euro per year . But unicef Ireland will not reveal how much he is paid , which is not the internationally accepted practice for the information charities should disclose about their spending .
Mr Power just happens to be an ex Fianna Fail minister for overseas development , who was given the job by a certain Mr Brian Cowen , and we all remember him don't we ?
Mr Power was appointed executive director of unicef Ireland in December 2011 . This is the same charity who sacked executive director Melanie Verwoerd in July 2011 because of the publicity surrounding her relationship with late Gerry Ryan . As a result three Hollywood stars expressed their regret at her dismissal , Liam Neeson , Vanessa Redgrave and Roger Moore .
I really don't get , is there not an international community who assist in these type of matters ? You are asking people who in many cases simply cannot afford to contribute to these charities . Then you make them feel guilty about their inability to help , while still collecting your 4 thousand euro a week salaries . A lot comes to mind when I think of people like this , and hero is not one of them . I am sure a lot of people would like to give to these charities , but the distrust they have for the administration of the monies involved sometimes makes them reluctant to .
Why doesn't big money help ? Why doesn't big corporations help ? And why does it always come down to money . Not their money , yours , and the little you have . Why doesn't the Vatican help ?
