A Progressive Day !

                                                          Today six of my grandchildren came to visit us both , there was Scott , Jamie , Billy & Lily , there was Zoe and also Alannah . I would like to thank their parents who were there Eve & Ray , and daughter in law Lisa . Because we live quite a distance from each other its particularly hard to get us all together at once . Today a huge effort was made by all involved which led to having a really wonderful day . The children were an absolute joy , they behaved themselves so well it was pure joy for both my wife & I .
                                                          There was so much interaction between them it was so hard to keep track of everything . We laid on the most informal dinner I have ever witnessed , and believe it or not it was a total success . When the mood is good , even if the chicken was a little overcooked there wasn't a mention of it . Its so fulfilling when you get a chance to mix with your children & grandchildren without having to contend with personalities . These are the things that get in the way of family and progress , so today was a particularly progressive day .
                                                         Its great to be able to talk to children on a level I am very comfortable with , there is no pretence , there is no being hurtful toward each other , and by the time everyone left there were nothing but smiling faces all round . Because as we all know quite well , this isn't always the case , thats why I mentioned personalities earlier . I bet you were wondering why ? Well from experience , family gatherings sometimes can tend to get ............... a little strained if you get my meaning ? And thats not what you want children to see or identify with as the norm for family gatherings . Too often the idiocy of one or two family members can make shit of a well meaning and well prepared gathering . That was not the case today , and thank God it never has been . There's no easy way to make a child understand that the strained atmosphere they had just encountered was forever going to be the norm . And to be honest children should never have to contend with this sort of behaviour , its not productive and it certainly isn't healthy .
                                                       In conclusion , I will take this opportunity again to thank everyone involved , you made me and my wife very proud today !

                                                                    In the huge scheme of things we live our lives in a way that has been somehow mapped out for us .  We wake every day and do the things that are expected to be done by others , but mostly by ourselves . Most of the time we are pleased by our efforts , and sometimes we just let ourselves down . And that's okay too , because we're not as perfect as we would like to be , or as others might expect us to be .
