Who Wants To Live Forever ?
I've often felt quite small and meaningless , when I considered the position and influence attached to celebrity . You probably understand what I mean when I say , Superstars , Iconic singers in the music business . Celebrity actors and actresses . Just crowds upon crowds of people who you just know you will never meet in a one to one situation . And this is why we feel so indebted to them all for making us all more complete with their sensitive and emotional words , and their truly memorable performances . We owe them so much if you come to think about it . And not just for their music I need add . These Superstars have molded our personalities , have shaped our attitudes with their words of hope when hope was needed .They played love with a passion , when love was the only thing we ever wanted to express . And anger , when some group of celebrities took it upon themselves to highlight how the world had forgotten so many poor souls who were starving on continents , and in countries we never even heard of .
Cynics will say , that maybe they had too much influence , and in following a particular trend we actually surrendered our individuality to celebrity . I can understand that view , but I most certainly wouldn't go along with it . Consider this . Where would we all be without Blue Suede Shoes ? Where would all the ladies have been without a Beehive hairstyle , or a Jennifer Aniston cut ?The list goes truly on and on . We have been influenced by so many , and in doing so still tried to maintain our own personal individuality .
So to feel awe in the presence of celebrity , is nothing new , and certainly nothing to be ashamed of . We have all at one time or another been convinced into buying some form of top , or a pair of boots , that were seen on some hero of ours .Only , embarrassingly enough , to meet one of our fellow conspirators , wearing exactly the same pair of boots or top . That top would never be seen again . At least not in broad daylight .
With this blog I have been trying to ignore and not have to mention all of the hero's that have died this year . Its getting harder and harder to to ignore though . In my last blog I mentioned Rick Parfitt , Prince , and David Bowie . Now I am having to mention others who have passed , that has truly
upset the balance of what is fair in any given year . George Michael on Christmas Day , and Carrie Fisher only yesterday .
We all have our own hero's . Mine passed many many years ago . Jimi Hendrix . And having been very young at the time , in a very strange way it educated me in the truly awful losses we would all suffer in life . Never more apt , than it is today . We place these beautiful people , and in some cases privately , not so beautiful , on pedestals made up of the precious metal of our emotions and our adulation . We can't really help it , we just love what they do . How they look . We even have arguments with each other as to who is the most influential member of any given band . People even fall out over such unimportant trivia , at least its important to whatever individual believes in it .
I'll conclude this piece with as much silence as is necessary . I will just say 2016 , you really didn't hold back did you ? You made us all very much more aware of exactly how human and fragile we all are . As Freddie said Who Wants To Live Forever . In some cases we thought that maybe , just maybe , some of our hero's could !
